Microsoft Launches New Touchscreen Zune MP3
Feature-packed: The new touchscreen Zune has a built-in radio receiver, Wi-Fi, and can store and play back video in high definition
KOMPAS.com - Computer giant Microsoft goes head-to-head with rival Apple today as it launches its new Zune HD.

The slimmed-down digital music player, which has a touchscreen and plays video, undercuts the iconic market leader by about £50. The 16 gigabyte Zune, which typically stores 4,000 songs, costs £133 compared with £176 for the iPod Touch.

And the 32 gigabyte version brings a cost saving of £66, at £176 compared with £242 for the iPod. The Zune HD is only available for pre-order in the United States and will not hit the shelves there until September 15.

It will be available in five colours and has a built-in radio receiver, Wi-Fi, and can store and play back 10 hours of video in high-definition through a connection to your TV. Users can stream and download music from Microsoft's Zune Marketplace.

It is the third generation of Microsoft’s MP3 player, which has so far failed to create waves for Apple, whose iPod boasts 70 per cent of the market. The company had no information on when the Zune HD would be available in the UK.

Apple has a press conference scheduled for September, when analysts expect it to announce a handful of new products. A new version of Apple’s operating system, 0S10.6 is being talked about, along with the addition of a camera to the iPod Touch.
